Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Virgil AI LLC ("Virgil," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use Virgil Resume at resume.hirevirgil.com (the "Service"). The short version: we collect what we need to run the Service, your resume belongs to you, we do not sell your data, and we do not use your resume to train AI models.

Information you provide:

• Account information: your email address and password (stored as a secure hash).
• Resume and profile content: your resume text or uploaded resume file, your name, current or target job title, and LinkedIn username. Resumes typically contain personal information such as contact details, employment history, and education. Screenshots of job postings you upload are also processed.
• Job preferences: locations, salary range, industries, work style, travel preferences, target titles, and target companies.
• Saved searches: search setups and results you choose to save, including generated resumes.

Information collected automatically:

• Usage records: which metered actions you take (for example, tailoring a resume or running a job search) and when, used for credit accounting and abuse prevention.
• Technical data: standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps, used for security and reliability.
• Cookies: we use cookies only to keep you signed in (authentication session cookies). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Payment information: payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe; we receive only limited billing information such as a customer identifier, plan, and payment status.

• To provide the Service: searching jobs that match your preferences, generating tailored resumes and application answers, and saving your work.
• To manage your account, credits, and billing.
• To enforce fair-use limits and prevent fraud and abuse.
• To fix problems, maintain security, and improve the Service.
• To communicate with you about your account, purchases, and material changes to the Service.

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not show third-party advertising.

When you generate or edit a tailored resume, your resume text, preferences, and the job description are sent to Anthropic (the maker of Claude) to produce the output. When you upload job posting screenshots, the images are sent to Anthropic to extract the text. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, this data is not used to train their models. AI processing happens on demand; we send only what is needed for the request.

We share information with a small set of processors that operate parts of the Service on our behalf:

• Supabase: database, authentication, and storage of your account, resume content, saved searches, and usage records.
• Anthropic: AI generation, as described in Section 4.
• Adzuna: job search. We send your search criteria (such as job titles and locations), never your resume or contact details.
• Stripe: payment processing and subscription management.
• Vercel: application hosting.

Each provider receives only the information needed for its function and is bound by its own contractual and legal obligations. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or as part of a business transaction such as a merger or acquisition (in which case this policy would continue to apply to previously collected data).

We keep your account data, resume content, and saved searches for as long as your account is active. Usage and billing records are retained as needed for accounting, security, and legal compliance. When you delete a saved search, it is removed from our database. When your account is deleted, associated profile data, resume content, saved searches, and entitlement records are deleted; limited billing records may be retained where the law requires.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

• access a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
• correct inaccurate information;
• delete your account and associated data;
• object to or restrict certain processing.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@hirevirgil.com from the address on your account. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information: encryption in transit (TLS), encrypted storage, row-level access controls in our database so accounts can only read their own data, and scoped credentials for server-side operations. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.

The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

The Service is operated from the United States and information is processed on servers in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted with a new effective date and, where appropriate, announced in the app or by email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
